Update:

1. Renaissance Faire - Thank you so very much for all your hard work for the Renaissance Faire. We have received so much positive feedback about your work and your understanding of the Renaissance. You should be really proud of yourselves.

2. Renaissance Folders - Looking forward to reading your reflections about your artifact and Faire presentations.

3. Narrative Writing - we will be going full speed on those next week. Not sure yet if they will be due before the break. Let's see how next week goes.

4. Field Studies - Skating and climbing (104)...we are so lucky. Seeing the smiles on your faces made me so happy.

5. Dare to Care - Remember to be the positive in the space. Tell your families about what you learned.

This was, indeed, a very busy week. But, it was also a very productive one.

Here's what's coming up:

Monday - Telus Spark field study in the morning. We will likely split the afternoon between Smath and Hum.

Thursday - Winter Solstice: Better have that convo with the family...you are feeding each other.

Have a most wonderful weekend. If you are absolutely wonderful this week, I'll think about giving you Friday off!

Update We spent a great deal of time working on developing writing that is more interesting for readers. The first written assignment, "The Backstory of the Lottery" was submitted on Friday. The reason we used this particular short story is to look at what are the actions/events/interactions that create a change in society. This is tied to our study of the Renaissance, and the factors that prompted this particular era. We've begun investigating worldview (values and beliefs) of society. We did a comparison of the Western and Aboriginal worldviews and how our own worldviews can be diverse, yet still make up a functioning society. University of Calgary University of Calgary is hosting an event called Go ENG Girl on  Saturday October 19 , from 9:30 am to noon. It is an opportunity for Grade 7-10 girls and their parents to learn about engineering and try their hands at various activities, such as soldering. It is a free event but requires registration. Update Renaissance Faire presentations were completed this week. So much learning about the various elements of the Renaissance! Next week is the Faire. Please make sure you have all your display and costume materials in on Monday. We will work on, and finalize, displays and costumes on Monday and Tuesday. Narrative Writing - please complete your Freytag's pyramid for your short story outline. We will have meetings next week about your storyline. Thank you so very much to everyone who has handed in their field study forms. The return rate has much improved compared to the start of the year.
